Day 1: Castle Hill and the Lesser Town
Start early at Prague Castle (Pražský Hrad), the sprawling complex that anchors the skyline, and make time inside for St. Vitus Cathedral and the Romanesque St. George's Basilica. From there it is a short walk into Josefov (Jewish Quarter), where the Jewish Museum Prague and the Old-New Synagogue (Staronová Synagoga) cover centuries of the community's history. In the afternoon, choose between the sobering Museum of Communism or a lighter stop at the Museum of Senses & Illusion Art Museum, both an easy walk from the center. As evening approaches, head south to the hilltop fortress of Vyšehrad for quiet ramparts and skyline views over the river, a calmer contrast to the crowds of Old Town.
