1 Day in Tokyo: How to See the Best of It

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo rewards weeks, not hours, so a single day means picking one manageable slice of the city and skipping the rest on purpose — no Ghibli Museum, no teamLab, no Yanaka backstreets today. This route sticks to Asakusa and central Tokyo's biggest names so you leave with a real sense of the city despite the short visit.

Day 1: Asakusa to Shibuya

Start early at Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo's oldest temple, while the approach street is still quiet, then walk or take a short train ride to admire Tokyo Skytree from below for the skyline views. By midday head toward the city center to see the outer grounds of the Imperial Palace and its gardens. In the early afternoon, cross to Meiji Shrine for a quieter, forested contrast, then walk through Harajuku & Omotesando for lunch and people-watching. Spend the late afternoon in Shibuya, crossing the famous scramble and browsing the shops around the station. As evening falls, ride up Tokyo Tower or head to Shinjuku for dinner and neon-lit nightlife to close out the day.
