By late morning head to Dam Square to see the Royal Palace Amsterdam, then continue toward the Museum Quarter for a midday visit to either the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum — pick one rather than rushing both. In the afternoon, walk back toward the center via the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), pausing on the water for photos of the canal houses. Wrap up the day with dinner and drinks around Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein, both lively into the evening.
