Begin the morning at the Barcelona Cathedral (La Seu) before wandering the narrow lanes of the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic), stopping by the stately Palau de la Generalitat. Continue to the nearby Basilica de Santa Maria del Pi, then walk toward the waterfront side of the old city to see the soaring Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar. In the afternoon, dedicate a couple of hours to the Museu Picasso, tracing the artist's early development through one of the most complete collections of his work. Round out the evening with a visit to the dazzling Palau de la Música Catalana, and if there is time, a short stroll past the Arc de Triomf nearby.
Reserve the morning for Sagrada Família, Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece and the citys most essential sight, then head to the hillside Park Güell for sweeping views and mosaic-covered terraces. In the afternoon, walk down to the elegant Passeig de Gràcia to see two more Gaudí landmarks standing almost side by side: the playful facade of Casa Batlló and the undulating stone exterior of Casa Milà (La Pedrera). Finish the day with a relaxed dinner in the surrounding Eixample streets.
