Book a timed ticket for the Sagrada Família well in advance — it's the one sight in Barcelona you don't want to leave to chance. Walk up Passeig de Gràcia to see Casa Batlló and Casa Milà (La Pedrera) from outside, then spend the afternoon at Park Güell (also timed entry). In the evening, catch the Magic Fountain light show near Montjuïc.
Get lost deliberately in the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic), stopping at Barcelona Cathedral and the surrounding medieval lanes. Walk down La Rambla to La Boqueria Market for lunch, then continue to the El Born neighborhood and Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar. Finish at Barceloneta beach for a late-afternoon swim or seafood dinner by the water.
Ride the cable car or walk up Montjuïc for panoramic views over the city and port. Visit the MNAC or the Fundació Joan Miró, both on the hill. In the afternoon, art lovers should add the Museu Picasso in El Born. If you have a fourth day, Montserrat Monastery — a dramatic mountain sanctuary an hour outside the city — is the classic day trip.
