1 Day in Bangkok: How to See the Best of It

Bangkok, Thailand

One day in Bangkok is enough to see its most iconic riverside temples and get a taste of its street life, but it means skipping the floating markets, Chatuchak Weekend Market, and day trips like Khao Yai on purpose. This route sticks to the historic Old City core so you can see the essentials without racing the clock.

Day 1: Temples and the River

Arrive early at the Grand Palace before the tour buses and crowds arrive, then walk to nearby Wat Phra Singh or continue through the Old City (Rattanakosin) district on foot. By late morning, take a longtail boat or ferry across the river for a close-up look at Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), whose spires are best photographed from the water. Head back across for lunch in Chinatown (Yaowarat), grabbing street food among its markets and gold shops, then pop into Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha) nearby. In the afternoon, take a short Chao Phraya River Cruise to see the city skyline from the water and cool off from the heat. As evening falls, climb Wat Saket (Golden Mount Temple) for sunset views over the city, then finish with dinner and a stroll through the Silom District, where the night market energy gives a final taste of modern Bangkok before you leave.
