London is big enough that trying to cover every neighborhood in three days backfires. This itinerary groups sights by area — Westminster and the river, the museums, then markets and a day trip — so you're not crossing the city repeatedly.
Day 1: Westminster and the Thames
Start at the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels before crowds build, then cross Tower Bridge. Head to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben & Houses of Parliament, then walk to Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard if timed right. In the evening, ride the London Eye or take a Thames River Cruise to see the skyline lit up.
Day 2: Museums and the West End
Spend the morning at the British Museum — free entry, so budget as much time as you like. Walk through Covent Garden for lunch, then choose between the National Gallery or Natural History Museum in the afternoon. Book West End Theatre tickets for the evening — same-day discount booths in Leicester Square often have deals.
Day 3: Markets, Notting Hill and a Day Trip
Browse Borough Market for breakfast, then spend the morning in Notting Hill's pastel streets and Portobello Road. If you have a fourth day, Stonehenge, Oxford, or Windsor Castle are all doable as a single day trip from central London.
Tips for Your Trip
- Get an Oyster Card or use contactless payment on the Tube and buses — it's capped daily and far cheaper than paper tickets.
- Most major museums (British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum) are free — donations are welcome but not required.
- Book Harry Potter Studio Tour or big day trips in advance; they sell out on weekends.
