Xianyang International Airport: Located 25 km northwest. Airport bus, taxi, and ride-sharing services connect to city center (45-60 minutes). Most convenient for visitors.

Metro System: Xi’an operates substantially more than four metro lines; Line 8 opened in December 2024, and Line 15 opened in 2025. Modern, clean, and extremely affordable (very cheap per ride). English signage and international payment options available. Lines include:

• Line 1 does not pass near the Shaanxi History Museum; check the current metro map for the best route.
• Line 2 runs north–south; it serves the Bell Tower and South Gate area, but does not loop around the wall or directly serve the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
• Line 3: Reaches north areas and transport hubs
• Line 4: Newest line under expansion

Buses: Extensive bus network covers entire city with frequent service. Fare cards available offering significant discounts. Less convenient for non-Chinese speakers but economical.

Taxis & Ride-Sharing: Yellow taxis affordable and widely available. Didi Chuxing (Chinese Uber) offers app-based rides with English interface. Ask the driver to use the meter, or book through an app.

Bicycle Rental: Hundreds of public bike-sharing stations throughout city. Rent daily for city exploration at minimal cost. City wall cycling particularly popular.

Long-Distance Travel: High-speed trains connect Xi'an to Beijing (5.5 hours), Shanghai (10 hours), Chengdu (5 hours) and other major cities. Xi'an North and Xi'an stations are major hubs with extensive English signage and booking assistance.

✈️ Airport Transfer

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) to city center:

• Line 14 runs from the airport to Xi’an North Railway Station; transfer there to another line for downtown. The airport-to-North-Station segment alone takes about 35 minutes.
• The current airport shuttle listing shows a Chengxi–Bell Tower service terminating at Bell Tower Hotel, with a listed journey time of about 70 minutes.
• Taxi: Metered ride to the city center takes about 45 minutes and at a price to confirm with the driver first
• Private Transfer: Pre-booked car service to your hotel takes about 45 minutes and at a price to confirm when booking
