Rail Systems (Best Option): KL has an extensive, efficient, and affordable rail network including:

• LRT (Light Rail Transit): Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines cover major areas
• MRT (Mass Rapid Transit): Modern system connecting suburbs to city center
• Monorail: Elevated single-track serving downtown and Bukit Bintang
• KTM Komuter: Commuter trains to suburbs and Batu Caves
• KLIA Ekspres/Transit: Direct airport connections (28-35 minutes to city)

Fares: RM 1-6 per journey. Purchase Touch 'n Go cards or My50 costs RM50 for 30 days and is exclusively for Malaysians; visitors can’t buy it.

Ride-Hailing & Taxis

Grab: The dominant ride-hailing app offers reliable, affordable, and safe transportation. Download before arrival. Fares typically RM 8-25 for central KL trips.

Taxis: Budget taxis (red and white) use meters; executive taxis charge premium rates. Always insist on meters or agree prices beforehand. Airport taxi coupons available at KLIA.

Buses

RapidKL: Extensive bus network with low fares (RM 1-5) but complex routes and traffic delays make them less tourist-friendly. GoKL is a free DBKL bus service with 15 routes; check the current route map before travelling.

KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport): Located 50km south of city

• KLIA Ekspres train: Fastest option, 28 minutes to KL Sentral (RM 55 one-way)
• KLIA Transit: Stops at intermediate stations, 35-40 minutes (RM 55)
• Airport taxi: Coupon system, RM 70-100 depending on destination
• Grab: RM 60-90, convenient for hotels not near KL Sentral
• Airport bus: Budget option, RM 10-12 but slower (60-90 minutes)
