Getting Around Kathmandu
Within the City:
- Taxis: Metered taxis are abundant and affordable. Rates typically ₹300-500 for short distances. Uber and local apps available for tourists.
- Tuk-tuks: Three-wheeled auto-rickshaws offer quick short-distance travel. Negotiate fares before boarding; expect ₹50-200 per ride.
- Buses: Extensive public bus network is very cheap (₹10-50) but crowded and confusing for newcomers.
- Motorcycles: Bike taxis available for adventurous travelers; quick but risky given chaotic traffic.
- Walking: Central areas are pedestrian-friendly; a good way to discover hidden courtyards and local life.
To Nearby Destinations:
- Buses: Comfortable long-distance buses to Pokhara (6-7 hours), Bhaktapur (45 minutes), Dhulikhel (1 hour). Budget buses are cheapest; tourist coaches offer comfort.
