1 Day in Seoul: How to See the Best of It

Seoul, South Korea

One day in Seoul is enough to see its royal core and its modern skyline, but not both palaces, every museum, and every neighborhood. This route sticks to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, Insadong, and N Seoul Tower, and skips Changdeokgung, Lotte World Tower, and the citys museums entirely so you are not rushing across town.

Day 1: Palaces, Hanok Streets, and City Lights

Arrive early at Gwanghwamun Gate and walk straight into Gyeongbokgung Palace right at opening, when the courtyards are calm and the changing-of-the-guard ceremony is easiest to see. From the palaces north side, wander into Bukchon Hanok Village to see its traditional wooden houses stacked up the hillside before the midday crowds arrive. Head south into Insadong for lunch and a stroll past its tea houses, galleries, and craft shops, ducking into the nearby Jogyesa Temple for a quiet break from the street noise. By mid-afternoon, make your way to N Seoul Tower, riding the cable car up Namsan Mountain for panoramic views over the city while there is still daylight. Close the day in Myeongdong, where street food stalls, cosmetics shops, and neon signs light up for the evening, making it an easy, walkable spot for a final dinner before heading back to your hotel or the airport.
