Electricity & Adapters
Voltage: Albania operates on 230V, 50Hz electrical current, standard for Europe.
Plug Types: Albania uses Type C and Type F plugs (European standard with two round pins). Type F includes grounding clips on the sides.
What You Need
- US/Canadian travelers: Need both voltage converter (230V to 110V) AND plug adapter. Most modern electronics (laptops, phone chargers, cameras) support dual voltage check device specifications.
- UK/Irish travelers: Need Type G to Type C/F adapter (UK three-pin to European two-pin).
- Australian travelers: Need Type I to Type C/F adapter.
- European travelers: Generally no adapter needed if from continental Europe.
Where to Buy
Before arrival: Purchase adapters at home for better prices and selection. Available at electronics stores, airports, and online.
In Tirana: Electronics shops in Taiwan Center, TEG mall, and city center stores sell adapters. Airport shops have limited, expensive options. Hardware stores (called "zdrukth" in Albanian) also stock adapters.
Practical Advice
- Check device labels: Most modern chargers list "Input: 100-240V" meaning they work worldwide only need plug adapter, not voltage converter
- Universal adapters: Best investment if traveling multiple countries. Look for models with USB ports for direct phone charging
- Power strips: Bring a small power strip/extension cord with your home plug type, then use one adapter for multiple devices
- Hotel amenities: Many hotels provide adapters at reception ask when checking in
- Power outages: Rare in Tirana but occasional. Keep devices charged and pack a portable battery

Most modern accommodations, cafes, and restaurants offer USB charging ports. Bring USB cables for convenient charging without adapters.
