Getting Around in Peloponnese

Getting Around the Peloponnese

A rental car is strongly recommended, this is a large, mountainous region where the major sites are spread far apart and public transport is limited outside main towns. KTEL regional buses connect larger towns (Nafplio, Kalamata, Sparta, Tripoli) but rarely reach archaeological sites directly. The Rio-Antirrio Bridge and Corinth Canal crossings connect the peninsula to the rest of Greece by road, and the historic Diakopto-Kalavryta rack railway offers a scenic, if slow, alternative for that specific route.
