Look for Niihau shell lei (genuine ones are expensive and hand-strung, sold with certificates of authenticity), Kauai-grown coffee and chocolate, locally made guava and lilikoi (passionfruit) jams, and Hawaiian-print clothing from island boutiques. Old Koloa Town, Hanapepe, and Kilohana Plantation are the best shopping districts for local crafts and art rather than mass-produced souvenirs. Prices at boutique shops are largely fixed, though small farmers market vendors may be flexible on multi-item purchases.
