Electricity & Adapters
Voltage: 230V
Frequency: 50Hz
Plug Type: Type F (Schuko) - two round pins with grounding clips. Also accepts Type C (Europlug) - two round pins without grounding
Adapter Requirements
- From UK: Need adapter (UK uses Type G - three rectangular pins)
- From USA/Canada: Need adapter AND voltage converter/transformer if device isn't dual-voltage (USA uses 120V Type A/B)
- From Australia: Need adapter (Australia uses Type I - two/three flat pins)
- From EU/Most of Europe: No adapter needed (except UK and Ireland)
Important Notes
- Check Device Voltage: Most modern electronics (phones, laptops, cameras, tablets) are dual-voltage (100-240V) and only need a plug adapter. Check device label or power adapter
- Single-Voltage Devices: Hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons from 110V countries need voltage converter OR purchase dual-voltage model. Hotels often provide hair dryers
- USB Charging: Many hotels have USB ports. Bring USB cables for direct charging without adapters
- Where to Buy Adapters: Airport shops, electronics stores (MediaMarkt, Saturn), larger pharmacies (DM, Bipa), hardware stores
- Universal Adapters: Consider investing in quality universal travel adapter with multiple plug types and USB ports for future travels
Power in Public Spaces
- Many cafés and restaurants offer outlets for customer use
- ÖBB trains have power outlets at seats
- Vienna International Airport has charging stations throughout terminals
- Some newer trams and metro stations have USB charging points
- Portable power banks recommended for day-long sightseeing
