Getting Around Naples

From the Airport:

  • Alibus: €5, runs every 20min to Piazza Municipio and Central Station (30-40min)
  • Taxi: Fixed rate €23 to city center (ensure meter or agree price first)
  • Private Transfer: Pre-book for €30-50, convenient for hotels

Public Transportation:

Naples has metro, buses, funiculars, and trains. Single ticket: €1.10 (90 minutes). Day pass: €3.50. Buy tickets at tabacchi, newsstands, or metro stations. Validate before boarding!

  • Metro: Line 1 connects major sights (Toledo, Dante, Museo stations). Line 2 links Central Station to Pozzuoli. Stations feature impressive contemporary art.
  • Funiculars: Four funicular railways connect downtown to Vomero hill (Centrale, Chiaia, Montesanto, Mergellina)
  • Buses: Extensive network but can be crowded and delayed by traffic. Useful for reaching parks and coastal areas.
  • Circumvesuviana Train: Essential for Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Sorrento. Runs from Garibaldi Station (near Central Station). Not covered by city tickets.

Taxis & Rideshare:

Official taxis are white with taxi light. Use taxi stands or call +39 081 8888. Uber available but limited. Agree on price before longer trips or use meter.

Walking:

The historic center is best explored on foot. Streets are narrow, crowded, and often cobblestoned. Wear comfortable shoes. Be alert for scooters and traffic.
