A rental car is essential for exploring beyond a single resort — Halkidiki's three peninsulas are large and public buses (KTEL) run infrequently between the main towns, rarely reaching individual beaches. Thessaloniki International Airport, about an hour from central Kassandra, is the usual arrival point, and rental desks there are the easiest way to pick up a car on arrival.
