Where to Stay in Halkidiki
Halkidiki is really three separate peninsulas, so where you stay depends on the pace you want.
- Kassandra (the first peninsula): Closest to Thessaloniki airport and full of resorts, beach clubs, and organized nightlife strips. Suits first-time visitors and travelers who want nightlife without a long drive.
- Sithonia (the middle peninsula): Quieter pine-backed coves, smaller family-run hotels, and fewer crowds. A strong pick for families and couples wanting a calmer, more scenic base.
- Near the main towns and ports (e.g. where ferries and buses connect): Handy for travelers without a rental car who want easy access to shops, tavernas, and transport links. Works well for budget travelers relying on public transport.
- Areas close to conference hotels and larger business-oriented resorts: A few properties near the main road hubs cater to meetings and events, making them the practical choice for business travelers needing reliable wifi and easy road access.
Since Halkidiki spans a large area, most visitors do best renting a car regardless of base, as beaches, tavernas, and sights are spread along the coastline rather than clustered in one walkable center.
